The final two qualifying events for the 12th Massachusetts Super Senior Amateur Championship took place this week with 10 players guaranteeing their spot Monday at Chicopee Country Club and 14 more getting through Wednesday at Hyannis Golf Course.
The Championship Proper begins September 2 at The Haven Golf Club in Boylston. Entries for the event are open to amateur golfers age 65+ as of Sept. 2, 2025, who have an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 12.0.
On Monday at Chicopee, David Holmes (Blackstone National Golf Club), carded three birdies on his way to a 2-under-par 69, earning the first qualifying spot for the Super Senior Amateur. Trailing a few shots behind and tied for second, were Daniel Mitchell (Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club), and Steve Hallquist (Amherst Golf Club) at 3-over-par 74. Grabbing fourth place was Doug Farmer (Bedrock Golf Club) at 4-over-par 75, and fifth place was taken by Bill Yurko (Wahconah Country Club) at 5-over-par 76. The remainder of qualifier spots went to those tied at 6th place at 7-over-par 78, which was Mark Boedicker (Newton Commonwealth Golf Course), Daniel Walker (Dennis Pines Golf Club), Tim Walsh (The Tour), Mark Payne (Highfields Golf & Country Club), and Edward Sheehan (Wahconah Country Club).
On Wednesday at Hyannis, William Vine (Crestwood Country Club) earned the first qualifying spot for the Super Senior Amateur, turning in an even par score of 71. Kim Frenz (Kings Way Golf Club) earned the second spot, shooting a 3-over-par 74 with the help of a bogey free back nine. Tied for third at 4-over-par 75 was Bill Prescott (Oyster Harbors Golf Club), Mark Lemons (Cyprian Keyes), and Thomas Gilligan (Cummaquid Golf Club). Angelo Debortoli (Allendale Country Club) grabbed sixth place with a score of 5-over-par 76. Jack Bohman (Eastward Ho!), Jack Farrell (Cape Cod National Golf Club), Michael Arter (Segregansett Country Club), and Gary Smith (Willowbend) all tied for seventh place at 6-over-par 77. The last qualifying spots, at 7-over-par 78, were taken by Mike Russo (Dennis Pines Golf Club), Kevin Lecuyer (Bedrock Golf Club), Jeff Kinder (Cummaquid Golf Club), and Michael Leary (The Kittansett Club).
