USGA launches registration for major open events

For Immediate Release: MARCH 8, 2018

NORTON, Massachusetts – The opportunity for local golfers to compete in the national spotlight took one step closer towards fruition this week as the United States Golf Association (USGA) opened registration for four of its Championship Propers that will be contested during the 2018 season. The USGA Championship Department announced that competitors could begin the registration process for the 2018 U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Women’s Open and the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open, the only four tournaments that combine professional and amateur competitors in the same field.

The registration process, which allows eligible competitors to sign up for respective local and sectional qualifiers, as well as exempt players to confirm their attendance, can be completed under the “Apply To Play” tab on the association’s website, usga.org.

The opening of registration marks the beginning of the competitive season for all golfers across all USGA platforms as well as outlines what will be a busy season for the Mass Golf Championship staff, who have been tasked with hosting 18 local and sectional qualifiers for the 16 Championships being conducted this year.

Registration for both the 73rd U.S. Women’s Open Championship, taking place from May 31-June 3 at Shoal Creek, and the 118th U.S. Open Championship, set for June 14-15 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, closes at 5:00 pm on April 25. The registration deadline for the 39th U.S. Senior Open Championship at The Broadmoor is May 16 while interested competitors for the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship must register by May 23, respectively.

While competitors may look to qualify at any of the combined 266 local or sectional qualifiers across the United State for the four aforementioned Championships, Mass Golf will be conducting qualifiers here in the Bay State for the following events.
