While summer programs are hosted at all six program locations, special winter clinics are being offered at select locations – Springfield and Boston – in order to provide year-round opportunities for youth and a healthy after-school and weekend alternative.

“Our winter indoor programs allow participants – new and returning – to experience our curriculum and learn important life skills during the traditional golf off-season,” said Kyle Harris, Mass Golf’s Director of Operations of The First Tee of Massachusetts. “We are especially excited to expand programming this year to the Melnea A. Cass Recreational Complex, which offers a great opportunity to get more City of Boston youth exposed to the game of golf and its inherent values.”

To Harris’ point, winter programming will be offered for the first time at the Boston-based community center which is the only year-round indoor facility managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. The opportunity is made possible thanks to the partnership between The First Tee of Massachusetts, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and The Friends Of The Cass Inc.

“We are excited about this new partnership,” said Leonard Lee,  the General Manager and Curator at the Melnea A. Cass Recreational Complex. “Programs like The First Tee help build communities to become stronger. Together our programs will be able to touch, move, and inspire the young people.”

The programming will be a perfect compliment to the spring, summer, and fall programming that is offered at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park thanks to the support and partnership with the City of Boston Parks & Recreation Department.

“We could not be more excited about this opportunity,” said Harris, who noted that the clinics being offered concurrently at CityGolf Boston are already full. “Winter programs like these are a great way to introduce kids to the game in a fun and relaxed atmosphere without the pressure of the golf course. The coaches that run the summer clinics at Franklin Park will be in place at the Melnea Cass Complex, which will allow us to provide a consistent and positive experience for even more youth in the City of Boston and beyond.”

Programming is open to any youth and is free of charge. Classes are being offered on Tuesdays per the following schedule:

Melnea Cass Complex, 120 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Boston, MA

Session 1 – Tuesdays:  Jan. 29, Feb. 5, 12, 19.  3:30 – 5 pm
